ACI 207.4R-93-Cooling and Insulating Systems for Mass Concrete

ACI 207.4R-93-Cooling and Insulating Systems for Mass Concrete

The need for control of volume change in mass concrete induced primarily by temperature change has led to the developments of cooling and insulating systems for use in mass concrete construction.

This report reviews the historical development of these systems; the need for temperature control; precooling, postcooling, and insulating systems currently being used; and areas where future research is needed. A convenient method for computing the temperature of freshly mixed concrete cooled by various systems is also presented.
